Points of intersection from a sketch

Video masterclass

Topic summary

Points of intersection occur where two graphs meet, representing the solution(s) to simultaneous equations when plotted on a graph. To find these points from a sketch, you look for the coordinates where the curves or lines cross each other.

Sketch the graphs

Ensure that you have identified the shape of the graphs and labelled the x- and y-intercepts.

Find the intersections

The solution(s) are the coordinates that the graphs intersect. If you have sketched the graphs correctly it should be obvious the amount of intersections that are present. You will not be expected to find the solutions from sketches, only the amount of solutions.
